Leveraging Pinterest to Sell Digital Products
Selling digital products online can be a great way to earn money, and Pinterest is an excellent platform to help you do just that. I personally use Pinterest everyday to drive traffic to my website and it has been game changing! If you're new to Pinterest, don't worry—this guide will walk you through everything you need to know.
What is Pinterest?
Pinterest is a website where people find and save ideas, called "pins." These pins often link back to websites, making Pinterest a great tool to drive traffic to your online store. Pinterest used to just be a place to share cool DIY projects and outfit inspiration. But it has definitely evolved into a powerful search engine.
Setting Up Your Pinterest Business Account
First things first, you need a Pinterest Business account. This type of account gives you access to important tools to help you grow your business.
Create a Business Account: Go to Pinterest’s website and sign up for a business account. If you already have a personal account, you can convert it to a business account.
Optimize Your Profile: Use a clear profile picture, write a short bio that explains what you do, and add a link to your website or online store. Here is a link to mine for example!
Creating Eye-Catching Pins
Pins are the images or videos you share on Pinterest. They should be attractive and informative to grab people's attention. This is also a place to repurpose content from TikTok or Instagram.
Design Attractive Pin Images: Use free tools like Canva to create beautiful images. Vertical images (longer than they are wide) work best on Pinterest.
Add Text to Your Images: Including some text on your images can help explain what your pin is about and make it more interesting.
Write Good Descriptions: Use clear, helpful descriptions with keywords related to your product. This helps people find your pins when they search.
Getting Found on Pinterest
Pinterest works like a search engine, so you need to use the right words to help people find your pins. Unlike the typical social media, it is not arranged by the latest posts, everything is fair game. Even a post from 4 years ago could still drive traffic to your website.
Keyword Research: Think about the words people might use to search for your products. You can also use Pinterest’s search bar to see popular search terms.
Optimize Descriptions: Use these keywords naturally in your pin descriptions. The more relevant your keywords, the easier it will be for people to find your pins.
Use Hashtags: Adding a few relevant hashtags can help your pins get more visibility.
Organizing Your Pins
Pinterest lets you organize your pins into different boards. This makes it easier for people to find what they're looking for.
Create Thematic Boards: Make boards for different topics related to your products. For example, if you sell digital planners, create boards about productivity, organization, and planning tips.
Use Rich Pins: Rich Pins provide more information about your products directly on Pinterest. They can include things like the price and a link to buy.
Engaging with the Pinterest Community
Building connections on Pinterest can help increase your reach. Building a following on Pinterest is (in my opinion) harder than other platforms. Pinterest is more about views and pin clicks than having 1000s of followers.
Follow Relevant Accounts: Follow other users, brands, and influencers in your niche. Like, comment, and repin their content to engage with the community.
Join Group Boards: These are boards where multiple people can pin. Joining active group boards can help your pins get seen by more people.
Using Pinterest Ads
Pinterest also offers paid options to promote your pins and reach more people.
Promoted Pins: These are regular pins that you pay to show up in more places on Pinterest. You can target them to specific audiences based on their interests and search habits.
Shopping Ads: These ads highlight your products and link directly to your store, making it easy for people to buy.
Tracking Your Success
It’s important to keep an eye on how your pins are performing so you can see what’s working and what’s not.
Pinterest Analytics: Use Pinterest's built-in analytics to track things like how many people are seeing and saving your pins.
Google Analytics: If you use Google Analytics, you can track how much traffic Pinterest is sending to your website and see how many of those visitors make a purchase.
Pinterest is a powerful tool for selling digital products. By setting up a business account, creating engaging content, using the right keywords, organizing your pins, engaging with the community, using ads, and tracking your success, you can effectively market your digital products and drive sales.
Happy pinning!
